Artist Statement
Theodosia A. G. Tamborlane paints in oil on paper and canvas and creates three-dimensional collages and installation art. Theo is a full time painter who worked as an attorney for thirty (30) years, returning to college for a Fine Arts degree.

Many of her paintings are painted according to the process of automatism, whereby she comes to the painting with no preconceived ideas about the subject of the painting. The paintings take shape unconsciously as the paint is moved over the canvas or paper or as she constructs her collages by tearing, folding, layering and pasting.

The use of dynamic colors and the expression of movement are hallmarks of all of her paintings. The colors she chooses are independently selected and randomly mixed for each painting. Multiple colors move through each painting, taking the viewer along many and varied paths to visions both expected and unexpected.

Her collages demonstrate both movement of natural forces bounded only by space and the turbulent movement of psychological forces unbounded except by universal gods.
Titles are chosen for the paintings either as the painting emerges or after contemplation of the finished painting. As you view the paintings, their images will evoke your own.

Theo has developed the series, “Lifetimes.” Each “Lifetime” is a series of ten (10) canvases – one for each possible decade of a person’s life. Each decade is painted in a different format to show the changes we experience as we go through life to eternity.

In addition to being a Member of New Century Artists, she is a Member of the Pen and Brush Gallery, Allied Artists of America and the Contemporary Art Group of New Jersey. Her paintings are in collections throughout the United States and in Holland and permanently at “Simply Gallery” in Cranford, New Jersey.
